Life as I know it
Well, life as I know it has changed so dramatically since my last post! Changed in a good way (so far). I've changed jobs, I'm now at a help desk position (more in my field then working at an ISP). I get to work with people, and get to know them. Getting a new job has been good. I only have to one, it has 40 hours a week, working 8-4:30, and in the summer 7-3:30. And since getting that job, we were able to get a bigger apartment with 2 bedrooms in case our family would expand (not sure how that works
), and has heat and AC that we can control. It's a little expensive, but a very nice place in my opinion. Sarah's still working her job as well, and was moved to full time.
We still have car troubles, but who doesn't? Inspection for my 1991 Ford Tempo is this month. There was about $500 worth of things the mechanic could do, but on both rear corners, it was rusted through clear to the trunk! He didn't want to do that. So Ken, being the great step-father he is, worked with me and helped me patch it with sheet metal. The best part is, most if it is under the bumper, so you can really see it from the outside! There are a few easier parts I had to fill in with bondo, but that's not major problem.
Here's the kicker (literally). Sarah and I have had the CUTEST baby boy named Bladen Paul. Born the last day of June, which is Sarah's dad's birthday. He was born 2 weeks 2 days early. Sarah had to be induced because she was showing signs of pre-eclamsia. She had high blood pressure and protein in her urine. Sarah had a bowl of cereal before we went in for our weekly checkup at the OB, and the saw the protein in her urine and decided it would be a good idea for us to go to the hospital and get some more tests taken, and put on the monitor for a while. Her blood pressure was pretty high (and she's a small person). The baby looked good. They had us do another ultrasound to make sure the positioning of the baby was correct and he was head down. We even got some 3d pictures taken of him, but they didn't do justice to how cute he is now!
We got back up to the birthing suite room they had us waiting in. We were pretty happy we finally got a different room to be in up there. We had been there a couple of times and they always put us in the same boring small room. That room was actually the room my nephew was born in, we just wanted a change of scenery. We waited in the room for probably 2 hours and had lots of questions asked. Finally the doctor called and said that he wanted to induce! That was quite a shocker and I was really excited about it. I began shaking nervously. I texted my sister and told her to get ready, I was going to pick her up. I had her order me some Pizza Joe's pizza (the best). She and I went to my apartment and picked up the bag Sarah had packed the day before for the hospital trip. At our Lamaze class, they suggested that we pack a bag, so that we don't have to do it last minute... or so that I don't have to.
They gave Sarah medicine to "ripen" her cervix so they can induce the following day. Sarah hadn't anything other than a bowl of cereal for the day, and I felt really bad for her
. I didn't really sleep that well, I was excited and nervous at the same time. I had $60 in cash at the beginning of our hospital adventure. I spent it all on food. It really wasn't that bad, it was pretty delicious! So the day went on, and people visited. At one point, Sarah's blood pressure went up to 147/105. They had her on lots of medication: magnesium so that she doesn't have seizures from pre-eclamsia; Blood Pressure medication; and the regular saline stuff. It was really hard to turn her over because of all the cables that were hooked up to her. One of the nurses we had was really mean and kept kicking visitors out. Sarah progressed really slowly, cervix wise. But at one point, she fell asleep for a while, and she dilated 6cm in about an hour and a half! The ruptured the membrane (broke her water), and seriously, there was about 2 gallons of water that came out. It was really gross, and cool a the same time.
When Sarah had her motherly urge to push, the doctor and nurses would not let her because her BP was so high. She was in a lot of pain. A few times the doctors left the room and left us by ourselves with Sarah's legs propped open and ready to go. Finally they came in and let her start pushing. After they let her start pushing, it was only about 10 minutes until our son was here. At one point, both of us were worried because he didn't look like he was alive. I saw a bunch of blood gush by the doctor's hand and I though she had accidentally cut his neck with her nails somehow. But I think it was just a pocket left over from Sarah's insides. Eventually he started letting out his tiny little cute relieving cry. I cried my eyes out. At least 5 times. I could not stop crying, it was just so beautiful! He weighed 5lbs 5ozs. I got some foot prints on my New Daddy shirt. They wouldn't let Sarah breastfeed him right then like we wanted, because he was making a noise, which means that his lungs weren't doing too well. They took him to the incubator to get him warmed up. I went out and saw my family and let them know what's going on. Eventually we brought them back to see Sarah and Bladen.
In one month he was up to 8lbs 5ozs! He is doing really well, and mostly sleeps through the nights once he gets to sleep. We wake him up for eating of course. I'm really happy to be a Daddy to my very own son! Sorry this was really long.
